When I finally got to work, my mind crackled back to life with the excitement of discovery. The promise of piles of index cards and visits to the library could not have seemed like more of a dream to me amid the chaos of caring for two small children. After I found out about the manuscript I felt like I wanted to study it-and, as a person with an infant and a toddler, I was starved for a project like this. If it made any fiscal sense, I would have remained enrolled in graduate school for the rest of my life. No one can agree whether it is some kind of encrypted work, an elaborate prank, a vanished language, or something more. Most mysterious of all, however, is the language in which the book was written.
